Rogers & Co.); his involvement in Whitney Mills in Lowell, the mortgage for which was sold to Shattuck by Benjamin F. Deacon John White (b. Acton, Mass., 1749; d. Concord, Mass., 1830) kept store in Concord about 1773-1821. Around 1780, he bought and added onto the store building in Monument Square today used for the Colonial Inn. He prospered during the period from 1790 to about 1810. (John Thoreau, father of Henry David, was one of the Deacon's clerks.)
